Low back pain is serious

No matter the level of pain you can tolerate - the underlying issue is your back needs help.

Specifically, the muscles of the back and surrounding it need both active and passive stretches. Almost every client I encounter benefits from the following low back stretches:


The side bend (link)

The foot in hand grab (link)


Note, that I did not give a particular number of stretches or particular stretches beyond those above. Most everyone can benefit from various combinations of lower body stretches for the low back.


For example, if someone works at home and sits at a desk for long periods of time, I would give a few hip stretches, including Figure 4 and Knee to Chest in addition to the ones I gave here. Working on the kinetic chain begins with the hips and ideally the way we sit and stand from our toes to the top of our head.


When you decide to try these on your own, take it slow and steady and adjust as you feel best. And remember that active stretching is the most beneficial.
